Do you wake up exhausted despite having gone to bed early the night before? Find yourself constantly dozing off during your morning ride to the office! Nodding your head off at your desk just before lunch break! Hardly able to keep your eyes straight during afternoon management meetings! Cannot wait to get home and sleep? If you answer yes to any of these questions, chances are, you are suffering from an energy crisis.
Feeling of constant tiredness is a sign of an imbalance–you have more energy drainers (stress, overwork) than energy boosters (good sleep, proper nutrition, exercise) in your life, explains Dr Holly Atkinson, an author of Women and Fatigue.
“Fatigue is a protective reaction to this imbalance. It immobilizes the body so it cannot be driven to sheer exhaustion. And people who try to work in spite of their tiredness may suffer the consequences, including becoming more susceptible to illness.”
Before you go in search of a quick pick-me-up solution, you first need to look at the most important factor that affects your energy levels:
Lifestyle
Do you have?
-Too many late nights?
-Insufficient sleep?
-Burnout?
-A bad relationship in the office or home?
Next, identify, where your energy is going, and then take steps to adjust or remedy your situation. For example:
1. If you have been spending too many night outs with a gang, decide to go home earlier for a change and get enough rest.
2. If you have been accepting one job assignment after the other even when your plate is already full, learn to say no.
3. If you are having trouble with a colleague or your spouse, open communication lines or seek professional counseling.
In combating fatigue, check your lifestyle and make changes accordingly.
