The prostate is a walnut-sized gland located below the urinary bladder and in front of the rectum. It surrounds the upper part of the urethra, the tube that empties urine from the bladder. The prostate gland is an essential part of a man’s sexual organs, being responsible for producing a fluid that forms semen and other fluids during ejaculation.
As they age, some men go through a condition where the prostate starts to enlarge. What follows is the frequent need for urination. Eventually the bladder weakens and loses the ability to empty itself, thus retaining urine inside. All these result in the enlargement of the prostate.
Symptoms of Prostate problems
The symptoms of an enlarged prostate vary, but the most common ones involve changes or problems with urination, such as:
-Frequent need to urinate, causing you to get up several times at night.
-Urgency and leaking or dribbling.
-The urination flow is weak and often interrupted.
-Pain and difficulty starting a urine stream.
-Loss of libido and sexual potency
-A feeling that after urinated your bladder has not been emptied.
-Pushing or straining to begin urination.
-Blood in the urine.
-Weight loss
-Bone pain.
Prevention is better than cure
If you are a man above 50 and have family members with urinary symptoms such as that described above, it is advisable for you to get an annual prostate examination. Exercise found to helpful in lowering the risk factors, so you should find ways to keep yourself physically active.
